Chikankari work is here to stay

Some elements never go out of fashion, the traditional and elegant Chikankari embroidery work is one of them. The word “Chikankari,” often shortened to Chikan, is an elegant style of hand embroidery.  It developed quickly during the period when the Mughals ruled India and consisted of styles inspired by the Persians. Lucknow grew into an international market for its renowned Chikankari work. Off late the fine and intricate Chikankari work is creating a buzz in the glamour world.

Manish Malhotra showcased the elegant Chikankari work in his “Mizwan” collection in 2012. Thereafter the tinsel town celebrities have been seen sporting this elegant style at several events. At a recent event, Kareena was seen wearing a Chikankari saree designed by Manish Malhotra and we felt she looked stunning in her traditional avatar. Deepika too looked resplendent in a beautiful Chikankari jacket at an event, promoting her forthcoming movie, Jawani Diwani.
